Entering Sunday's match against JASA RWC, South City knew they had to bring their best effort as JASA was off to a furious start in league play. Well, they did just that, as a solid game plan and an intensity level to match their opponent made for a 2-1 victory and a real feel good win.
SSF got off to a great start as Brendan Cadam notched the games first goal after an assist from Kian Katanforoosh to put the team in the lead after just 11 minutes. Unfortunately that lead was short lived as JASA equalized in minute 18 to make it 1-1. The game then became alive as pressure from JASA to forge into the lead was effectively absorbed by the SSF defense and created counter attacks with their team speed having JASA a bit out of sorts. Solid play from the midfield of Cadam, Miguel Franco, Greg Hui, Michael Wheaton and Katanforoosh helped contain the offensive thrusts and Carlos Ballesteros as a withdrawn forward was ready to pounce or defend as needed.
The 2nd half began with the scored still tied and both sides taking shots at each other to try and find a winner. Goalkeeper Adrian Monroy again came up with some brilliant saves and the defensive line of Sam Nadell, Kevin Ma, Aidan Durgerian, & Sully Donohue, handled the push from JASA as they looked for the lead. As the match entered stoppage time, Greg Hui was taken down inside the penalty area drawing a foul and an ensuing penalty kick which Katanforoosh calmly finished to give SSFAC the win at 2-1
The team now looks to keep the momentum going as they next face JASA U23 on Saturday night, November 20th at Bechet Field in Redwood City. Kickoff is 5:00pm
