South City exploded for 5 goals in the first half on their way to a 6-4 victory over Modesto City FC on Sunday evening at Central Catholic High School. SSF started strong and the reward came fast as Greg Hui won back a ball from MCFC, and converted a beauty to put the team in front in the 2nd minute. Hui came right back and scored again in the 16th minute after a pass from Aidan Durgerian. Things were looking good and the team was feeding off of early momentum. Ten minutes later, it was Durgerian scoring after a nice through ball from Kian Katanforoosh. With things going completely South City's way, they came up with 2 more scores, one from Brendan Cadam off a Hui assist, and one from Carlos Ballesteros after Modesto had finally got one of their own just prior to the strike from Ballesteros.
Just when things looked to be in play for the team to just see out the second half, Modesto would have none of it, as they changed their game plan and came out to make a game of it, scoring 3 times to give SSF a real push. Fortunately, Katanforoosh struck towards the end of the match to put the game away and give SSF an important road win to keep them in the chase for the top spot in the Pacific Premier League.
Next up is a return match with Modesto as they travel to South San Francisco on Saturday, February 11th for an afternoon match at El Camino High School. Kickoff is 2:30pm and if the first match was any indication, this game should provide another 90 minutes of exciting intense soccer.
