It was going to be a tall task. SSFAC was facing the league leaders on the road, who were trying to keep their hold on the top spot. To make matters even more difficult, South City was missing some key players due to injury and unavailability. Even though a few replacements were signed prior to match day to help bolster the roster, JASA RWC proved to be too much of a challenge as they all but clinched the Pacific Premier title with a 6-2 victory over SSF last Friday night in Redwood City.
Although SSF had locked in a 5th place finish in the league, their eyes were set on trying to slip into 4th position with a win and a little help from Los Banos , who were taking on Juventus Acaemy Silicon Valley. Unfortunately, it just wasn't in the cards for SSF as JASA opened up a 3-1 halftime lead and maintained control in the 2nd half to ensure they would come out with a win.
Carlos Ballesteros leveled the score early on at one a piece when he put home a great finish after a wonderful assist from Greg Hui. Kian Katanforoosh closed out SSF's scoring with a late strike from within the penalty area for his 7th goal on the season.
In their 1st season in the SWPL's Pacific Premier League, SSF proved they are, and will be, a force to be reckoned with as they notched 10 wins and 2 ties in their 18 matches. Colt Field, their home pitch at El Camino High School, saw the team collect 6 wins in 9 games, and on the road, SSF had a very good record of 4 wins and 2 ties in the 9 matches in which they had to travel.
Coming soon....we will have a recap of the season highlighting some of the big wins, as well as many of the great performances of our players. It was a special season, from some very incredible young men who gave it all they had each and every weekend. They represented the City of South San Francisco and did themselves proud. Congratulations to the coaches & players who continue to add to the history and legacy of SSFAC, the oldest continuing men's soccer team on the SF Peninsula.
