SSFAC was looking for their 1st win of the season when they welcomed Dublin Celtic FC to Colt Field on Sunday. Playing at home and having many players back from injury strengthening the squad, and with club founder Alvaro Bettucchi in attendance, the team was ready to prove what South City is capable of.
It didn't take long for that to happen as a 1st goal off a pass from the corner gave SSF the lead 1-0 just 7 minutes into the match. It was Aidan Durgerian with the first tally and since he had a habit of scoring goals in pairs last season on three occasions, it would be interesting to see what he would do for an encore in his first game back with the team this year. How about a 3 goal hat trick, because that is just what he did. A Greg Hui cross from the right sent a sliding Durgerian for a nice finish and goal #2.
The second half is when South City ran away from Dublin Celtic FC. Ryan Waterston was the next one to hit the target as he gathered in a cross from Omeed Miraftab-Salo who had made a run down the left side. Just 16 minutes later, Greg Hui scored on a perfect through ball from Kian Katanforoosh, and then Katanforoosh notched one of his own on a pass across the box from Felipe Gonzalez. Durgerian closed out his trifecta on the day as his run on the left with a nice pass from Sam Nadell made it 6-0 in the 80th minute.
SSF put the game to bed in minute 82, when Junior Pedemonte got his first of the season on an assist from Miraftab-Salo. The South City defense was again outstanding as Goalkeeper Adrian Monroy collected his 1st clean sheet of the season with terrific support from the core of Kevin Ma, Sully Donohue, Fernando Costa, Sebastian Mendoza, Bob Weger & Martin Wright
SSFAC returns to action next Sunday night, October 15th when they take on a very good Club Tepa at James P. Lang Field in San Francisco with kickoff set for 6:10pm. Club Tepa is off to a nice start as they have 2 wins in their 3 games including a big 4-3 victory over league leading Santa Clara Sporting. Sunday nights match should be very entertaining.
