This season, results haven't always come easy for SSFAC, and after roaring out to a 3-1 halftime lead there was a feeling that it wasn't yet a done deal. As it turned out, PCC managed to tie the score at three before South City was able to get the winner 12 minutes from time earning a 4-3 win over PCC in Half Moon Bay.
SSF got on the board early as Jovi Amirkiai sent Leon Neuber through with a perfect pass that Neuber converted to give SSF a 1-0 lead after 3 minutes. Ali Ibrahim then notched the first of his two assists on the day when he played a ball to Andrew Elliott. Elliott made a move on his defender and then sent a ball to the right of the keeper for a 2-0 advantage. Blair Smith then upped the lead to 3-0 when he did what he does best, send a perfect free kick past the wall of defenders from about 23 yards out. PCC got on the scoreboard just before the end of the half when they pinned SSF in their own end and a clearance from near the goal line wound up in the net for an own goal.
PCC was able to tie the game up with 2 goals in a 3 minute span of the second half. The first off a counter attack that caught South City short on defense, and the second coming from a Penalty Kick after a foul inside the area. SSF then took over the match and put extreme pressure on PCC as they sought the game winner. It came in the 78th minute when Jimmy Santana played a ball to Ibrahim. Ibrahim then blew past his defender and sent a perfect cross to Neuber who slotted it home for the win.
The SSF defense was excellent as Roberto Miranda, Scott Ellis, and Stephen Shaw-Smith had big games. Shaw-Smith was brilliant with his leadership from the back as he controlled play, and gained possession many times for SSF as they worked their way forward. Adrian Monroy also had a fine day in goal as he came off his line to make plays and keep PCC at bay.
