SSFAC avenged an opening day tie with Real Santa Clara by handing them a 5-2 defeat, aided by a hat trick from Greg Hui. South City got off to a bright start with Hui notching his first goal on a rebound from a Roni Acosta shot, however they found themselves on the wrong end of the score when Real tallied twice during a 6 minute stretch midway through the 1st half. SSF pulled level with a goal from Carlos Ballesteros after receiving a pass from Ian Bergman to head into halftime at 2-2.
The second half belonged to South City but not before a scare at the 58th minute when Real Santa Clara was awarded a penalty kick. Goal Keeper Adrian Monroy, who is having perhaps his finest season in net, came up with a brilliant save to keep the match at 2-2. This seemed to spark the team as they immediately responded with a goal 2 minutes later as Ballesteros played the ball to the left side where Hui latched on to it and flew past 2 defenders to put the team back on top at 3-2.
SSF would collect 2 more goals as Danny Turgeon played a perfectly weighted ball to Karim Bendimerad who did the rest working his way up half the pitch to score a beauty of his own. Hui then finished off his 3 goal day with a finisher at the 90 minute to close it out on this day.
SSFAC continues to get great defensive play from its back four and the midfield has done an excellent job in possession and creating chances. SSF now travels to Redwood City to meet JASA Dos next Sunday. The team has 2 wins thus far against this tough opponent, one coming in the PSL Cup, but they know that 3 wins against one team in a season is a tough challenge, one they look forward to !!
