The boys from South City made it 2 in a row as then defeated a strong and determined Goal Busters by a count of 3-1. Goal Busters came out hard and caught SSF not equal to the task at first. Busters maintaining most of the early possession and SSFAC working hard to keep their shape. With Busters pushing forward, it allowed South City to strike on the counter attack with solid play from Sam Nadell and Brendan Cadam on the wings. At the 17 minute mark, Cadam's corner kick found Gareth Lea at the near post and his flick found the net giving the boys a 1-0 lead. Soon after that Vikram Tharakan broke up a Busters play and pushed forward letting go of a nice shot beating the keeper from about 20 yards out.
Goal Busters made a game of it as they answered with a goal of their own at the half hour mark, however South City wasn't done yet as defender Martin Wright pushing forward on the overlap, sent a terrific cross to Andrew Elliott who headed it home for the eventual 3-1 victory. The second half found SSF under much pressure as Busters tried to sneak back into the match. Excellent defensive play from Fernando Costa, Meyer Gorelick, Chris Silva and Martin Wright keep that from happening and the always brilliant play from goal keeper Adrian Monroy sealed the win for SSF.
Next up, SSFAC takes on another difficult challenge as they host Gordon Biersch on Sunday, October 6th at El Camino High School. Kickoff is 3:15 pm.
