Game Comments:

It was the match everyone expected, defending League and Cup Champion Santa Clara Sporting, taking their unbeaten record against SSFAC. South City was also unbeaten after just 3 games this season and was looking to find a way to claim the top spot. It would be a challenge as SSF's overall record against Sporting is a dismal one, but today was different as the upstart locals came to play. The opening part of the match saw both sides fighting to maintain possession, but Sporting had the best of it for the first 15 minutes. South City played a high line forcing Santa Clara into multiple offside calls as they tried to play long ball over SSF's back line.

Although South City did not have a lot of the ball initially, they made good on their first real chance of the half. Right back Kevin Ma played a perfectly weighted ball into the middle for Brendan Cadam. Cadam turned on the ball and held it until he was able to play a through pass to Gerg Hui who was racing up the line. Hui cut inside and beat his defender and laid the ball back to Cadam who cleverly beat his defender and the keeper to slot home what would be the only goal on the day. Cadam had a terrific match and really pressured the Sporting defense. Carlos Ballesteros also continued his terrific season as his hold up play as a striker allowed the counter attack to build and create chances.

Sporting then showed their might as they went at SSF with a vengance. They came in continous waves looking for the equalizer, but as the game moved into the second half, South City showed why they no longer are considered an upstart as they matched Sporting's challenges with a firm and solid defense, holding off the chanps for the remainder of the match. SSFAC once again displayed their amazing will and determination as they earned thier second shutout in 4 games. Goal Keeper Adrian Monroy was superb in turning away every Sporting attempt.and contributions from Kevin Ma, Shane Kutaka, Meyer Gorelick, Gareth Lea, Djim Andemel and Martin Wright sealed the win. Kristopher Szeto also made his first appearance for the team and had a very good game.

South City now finds themselves all alone at the top of the Liga NorCal PSL Division, but they know they now have a target on their back as the rest of the division will be looking to knock them off thier perch. Next up is a road game against the very dangerous JASA Dos at Red Morton Park in Redwood City on Sunday, Oct. 20th at 7:00pm
